Although flood waters are long gone, Underwood Mobile Home Park residents are still waiting to be let back into their Plattsburgh homes. Read expects a third to be able to return in the near future. However, he said 25 homes were destroyed leaving the other 2/3 facing a long road ahead. "A third will have to have a lot of rehabilitation– pipes being replaced and a third were literally under water," Read said.

Roughly after 2pm on Friday, the water levels in the East Branch of the Ausable River began to rise. Quickly jumping from just under 4' at 2:15pm to major flood stage at 13.25' at 2:45pm. Chunks of ice, and logs filled the river and struck the one way bridge to the Jersey section of town, which was one of the hardest hit sections.

Heavy rains and melting snow in the mountains caused ice to break up on the east, west, and main branches of the Ausable River today. Moving downstream, the ice became jammed in sections of the Ausable rivers near Lake Placid, Jay, and Ausable Forks. The jams resulted in flooding that closed several roads.

Most of the people in the 24 homes that were evacuated on Saturday because of flooding in Fort Covington, in Franklin County, have returned to their homes, according to the North Country chapter of the American Red Cross. But officials say six to eight homes remain cut off by floodwater.
