This week, an article in the newspaper La Voix de l'Est revealed that Sutton was ranked 189th out of 208 cities in 2016 for the highest municipal spending per capita. Sutton's operating expenses are twice that of the best performing cities of comparable size. The debt was $8 million as at December 31, 2014, whereas two years later, it was $14 million, due, among other things, to cost overruns for the rehabilitation of City Hall and Goyette / Hill Park. The scandal is not necessarily the increased debt, but rather the  mismanagement.that generated it.
