As the last days of this municipal
election campaign unfold, Michel Lafrance draws a constructive assessment of
his quest for the Sutton town hall.
The themes of
affordable housing for young families, diversification of the economy, access
to a high-speed Internet connection and traffic management were part of the
exchanges.
Mr. Lafrance also
notes a wave of dissatisfaction with the outgoing administration. "What we
see on the ground, not only in my case, but also among other independent
candidates, is that there is widespread dissatisfaction with the Dandenault
administration.
"From the
beginning, there was a loss of confidence in elected officials with the file of
the reconstruction of the city hall " he continues, the schedule was modified.
It sowed doubt, " he continues.
The aspiring
mayor says he has attended several of the Council's monthly meetings over the
past four years. He describes an atmosphere which is sometimes heavy. "It
was not pleasant, the room was constantly full. There were a lot of questions,
the tone was aggressive. The Council was trying to get away with it as best it
could. "
This is why Lafrance
insists so much on transparency and communication. If he comes to power, he
wants to make sure to involve citizens more in the decision-making process,
"at least for major issues," he adds.
Always bearing in mind this idea of clarity, he does not
rule out proposing the broadcast of the monthly meetings of Council and publicizing
the agendas. "People want to know what's going on," he says.
