Demain Sutton Autrement: Public meetings
David James - Sutton Scene - 22 September 2017
Many citizens think there must be a better way to administer the affairs of
Sutton than has been experienced during the past four years. This sentiment
has led to the formation of a non-partisan group – Demain Sutton Autrement
- DSA.

Mayor Dandenault says that he and his colleagues are the mayor and council
of everyone. Nevertheless, the DSA believes key elements missing in Sutton
are much greater citizen participation and open government.
This initiative echoes a lesson that was learnt in Paris where the deputy
mayor Jean-Louis Missika says, ‘If you want to escape the NIMBY - Not in My
Back Yard – reaction you have to make all of the citizens part of the project.
Co-inventing, co-processing, co-creating is the future of open government.
It’s a question of making the decision-making process and creation of a
project a shared responsibility between citizens and the elected officials.
When you do that’, M. Missika says, ‘you can make people go from critic to
supporting and it changes a lot of things in the relationship between the
citizenry and the people who are in charge’.
Demain Sutton Autrement is organizing three public meetings for different
electoral districts where it will review its objectives and above all provide an
opportunity for citizens to discuss the election, hear from and get to know
candidates, and become involved in their campaigns. The meetings will be
limited to 90 minutes. If you cannot attend your district meeting, feel free to
attend another.
The schedule of the meetings is listed above in the Agenda.
